Review - Pianocidal

Artist - Pianocidal (indie)

Genre - Alternative

Band members - Pianocidal, Larry Ricard

First of all, I love Pianocidal. I have for ages, or at least it feels like it. The description on the myspace is pretty accurate: "Piano Rock with Barenaked Ladies humor". Yes, folks. Piano Rock. Think early Billy Joel. While this is music for different tastes than those we've (read: I've) reviewed previously, I do suggest giving Pianocidal a chance.

The lyrics are fun, the music itself is very lively and danceable.

I don't think my words can possibly do Pianocidal justice. So I will let the words from the MySpace speak for themselves.

"How many times have you said this: "This band sounds JUST LIKE every other band!" Not Pianocidal. Not at all. The piano rock baton has been carried by a few...Jerry Lee Lewis, Elton John, Billy Joel, Ben Folds, but how far has rock on the piano come? How far has that envelope been pushed? In any genre of music there are only two kinds of musicians: Innovators and Duplicators. Want Duplicators? Listen to the radio. Want an Innovator? Listen to Pianocidal. Want the same ol' same ol'? Listen to the radio Want the cutting edge? Listen to Pianocidal. Want an average life with average music made by average people? Listen to the radio. Want better than that? Listen to Pianocidal. Of course I'm on iTunes, but feel free to download these four tunes right here for free. I'm not in this game to rob you of 15 bucks for a cd. I'm not doing this to be the next "flavor of the week" pop idol. And I'm sure-as-heck not doing this for rock stardom. It's about breaking boundaries, stretching out, and art in all its pop-rock pianocidalistic glory. I'm throwing down the gauntlet. "

Music by Pianocidal is also available via iTunes.

Pianocidal gets 4.5 out of 5 stars from me. I would give a full five, but my favorite song isn't on the player anymore! Where's "Daydream At Midnight", eh?

Track Recommendation - Topless Dancer
