Artist - The Perfect Victim (Unsigned)
Genre - Rock / Pop Punk / Alternative
Band members - Jeff (Vocals), Jake (Lead Guitar), Priestley (Guitar), Rick (Bass/Vocals), Trevor (Drums)
I almost feel like I'm going against my own rules here, posting about The Perfect Victim. They are not a Top 40 band (yet) but they are gaining popularity by the day. But I'm going to review them anyway, and not just because I finally bought their album, either.
Do not write The Perfect Victim off as a cookie-cutter pop-Punk band. Their sound is quite a glossy mix of Pop, Punk, (slight) emo & the Alternative I grew up on (early-to-mid 90s). Their debut album, One Against The Odds, is the perfect example of what rock should sound like. From highly bouncy tracks like "Good from Far" to more hard rock grooves on "Dream Awake", to the hard, angry crunchiness of "Let It Go" there isn't one bad track. Not one. I have very rarely enjoyed an entire album by one artist, there are usually at least a few "meh" tracks. Not on One Against the Odds.
Their album is available via their MySpace and on iTunes, but hurry, the iTunes deal is only for a limited time!
I rate The Perfect Victim 5 out of 5 stars. This is a band you should have on your playlist, and your friends list. ASAP.

Review - Ben Forrest Davis
Artist - Ben Forrest Davis (Indie)
Genre - Indie / Pop / Rock
Band members - Ben Forrest Davis
I have to admit, Ben isn't a new artist. However, he's been a favorite of mine for quite a while, and I think he's worth mentioning on here.
Ben's sound is beautifully unique in the Indie scene. His fusion of blues guitar, pop lyrics, folksy vocals and groovy harmonies really set a nice, mellow tone.
Ben is a former member of the band Sugarcult, but his sound is very different from his former band.
His album, Roughs (which is available through amazon.com and iTunes) is a great album to chill out to, nothing too loud or distracting, just beautiful music certain to set you at ease, especially after a long hard day.
The songs vary from heartbreaking (Hello This Is Goodbye) to heartwarming (This Is Home) and everywhere in between.
I give Ben Forrest Davis 5 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend adding him to your friends list as soon as possible, and buying Roughs, too.

Review 1 - Goodbye Ian
I found out about this band very recently from a really cool chica named Andrea. She's got mad good taste.
Artist - Goodbye Ian (unsigned band)
Genre - Indie / Rock / Folk
Band members - Douglas, Raviv, Kyle, Whitney, Winthrop, Kestrin, Dave
Their music reminds me a lot of artists like Snow Patrol, Bright Eyes, Sufjan Stevens (very Man of Metropolis on a few tracks, in fact) and minus the large number of band mates, The Polyphonic Spree.
Melodic and catchy without an over-produced pop sound, Goodbye Ian really has what it takes to make it big, at least in the Indie scene.
There isn't much information on this band on their MySpace profile, so there's not a lot to pull from for a review. I will do an updated review if they upload new songs, or add to their profile.
I give Goodbye Ian 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. They would have gotten a solid 5 if there was more band and background info on the page.

A little punky a little poppy - introduction
Hola!
So this is Music Of The Now.
It's a blog where I (and occasionally friends) review new music by UNSIGNED artists on MySpace.com and give music recommendations of both known and unknowns musicians.
All reviews and reccs. will be from MySpace.
Now don't go thinking we're elitist bastards or something, because we're not. We're pretty open, really. If you know of a band that deserves recognition and they have a MySpace music page, feel free to drop us a link or 2! We'll definitely give you a shout when the review goes online.
So welcome.
