Awesome enough that I decided to review them for my first one on this here site. They're a great, great band drawing influence from more progressive stuff and some post-hardcore as well.

The music itself is quite well written...lots of fairly complicated, spacey-sounding guitar parts, the occasional abrupt shift in time signature and just generally unusal time signatures. The vocals are absolutely wonderful...Carlos has a lot of talent, and the screams are also wonderful...they don't sound out of place at all. They happen just when they need to and sound excellent.

These guys are definitely a good band to chill out with...but they can also be intense, if you're in such a mood. There's a few different ways you can take the sound depending on your own mood. And the lyrics are also great stuff, they fit the music quite well.

I can see these guys going places...especially if they end up at Warped this year as they are aspiring to. Definitely a band that deserves a whole lot of attention, and hopefully they will get it soon enough. A lot more original than a lot of the stuff that's on the TV/radio at the moment...and worth more than just one listen.

Check 'em out, yo.

Myspace URL: http://www.myspace.com/laurenlouvre

Reccommended Tracks: "All Is Gone", "You've Got a Problem", "Question Marks"

Go listen now!

~Tony~

The Bastard Fairies - We're All Going To Hell video!

Since the song was a big hit on the show last week, I thought you might also like to see the video!

I can't yet figure out how to embed a flash video on a post here, so click here for a link to the Bastard Fairies "We're All Going To Hell".

Don't forget, our second show goes live in about an hour and a half! Click here to come join us, won't you?

Apologies & show time

First, our sincere apologies for not updating, I've been very bogged down with personal stuff, and Tony has been working, so we haven't had time for reviews this week. I have for ages, or at least it feels like it. The description on the myspace is pretty accurate: "Piano Rock with Barenaked Ladies humor". Yes, folks. Piano Rock. Think early Billy Joel. While this is music for different tastes than those we've (read: I've) reviewed previously, I do suggest giving Pianocidal a chance.

The lyrics are fun, the music itself is very lively and danceable.

I don't think my words can possibly do Pianocidal justice. So I will let the words from the MySpace speak for themselves.

"How many times have you said this: "This band sounds JUST LIKE every other band!" Not Pianocidal. Not at all. The piano rock baton has been carried by a few...Jerry Lee Lewis, Elton John, Billy Joel, Ben Folds, but how far has rock on the piano come? How far has that envelope been pushed? In any genre of music there are only two kinds of musicians: Innovators and Duplicators. Want Duplicators? Listen to the radio. Want an Innovator? Listen to Pianocidal. Want the same ol' same ol'? Listen to the radio Want the cutting edge? Listen to Pianocidal. Want an average life with average music made by average people? Listen to the radio. Want better than that? Listen to Pianocidal. Of course I'm on iTunes, but feel free to download these four tunes right here for free. I'm not in this game to rob you of 15 bucks for a cd. I'm not doing this to be the next "flavor of the week" pop idol. And I'm sure-as-heck not doing this for rock stardom. It's about breaking boundaries, stretching out, and art in all its pop-rock pianocidalistic glory. I'm throwing down the gauntlet. "

Music by Pianocidal is also available via iTunes.

Pianocidal gets 4.5 out of 5 stars from me. They are not a Top 40 band (yet) but they are gaining popularity by the day. But I'm going to review them anyway, and not just because I finally bought their album, either.

Do not write The Perfect Victim off as a cookie-cutter pop-Punk band. Their sound is quite a glossy mix of Pop, Punk, (slight) emo & the Alternative I grew up on (early-to-mid 90s). Their debut album, One Against The Odds, is the perfect example of what rock should sound like. From highly bouncy tracks like "Good from Far" to more hard rock grooves on "Dream Awake", to the hard, angry crunchiness of "Let It Go" there isn't one bad track. Not one. I have very rarely enjoyed an entire album by one artist, there are usually at least a few "meh" tracks. Not on One Against the Odds.

Their album is available via their MySpace and on iTunes, but hurry, the iTunes deal is only for a limited time!

I rate The Perfect Victim 5 out of 5 stars. This is a band you should have on your playlist, and your friends list. ASAP.

Track Recommendation - Loser

Review - Ben Forrest Davis

Artist - Ben Forrest Davis (Indie)

Genre - Indie / Pop / Rock

Band members - Ben Forrest Davis

I have to admit, Ben isn't a new artist. They would have gotten a solid 5 if there was more band and background info on the page.

Track recommendation - Rain Snow

A little punky a little poppy - introduction

Hola!

So this is Music Of The Now.

It's a blog where I (and occasionally friends) review new music by UNSIGNED artists on MySpace.com and give music recommendations of both known and unknowns musicians.

All reviews and reccs. will be from MySpace.

Now don't go thinking we're elitist bastards or something, because we're not.
